5 Reasons I’m Sick Of Facebook

5 Reasons I'm Sick Of Facebook
source
Guys, Facebook has gotten really boring. Do I depart or stick around—I think about this way too often during the day. Here’s my problem with Facebook these days.
1. Apparently, most of my friends are either the parents I babysat for, or the children I babysat. That’s right, Facebook is making me feel very old. And I’m not. Yet.
Old friends, I miss you guys. Most of you have left Facebook already because you’re cooler than I. I keep waiting for you to come back. Some of you do, for a period, and then with a puff you vanish.
2. People have really boring status updates. Remember the good old days when people were always saying interesting stuff? Heck, I used to think in status updates. And they were good.
5 Reasons I'm Sick Of Facebook
Sorry folks, while I might be glad you’re life is “blessed,” I don’t get on Facebook to hear about it. I am not that worried about your allergies. And I’m terribly tired about reading your references to the people that make your life miserable.
Unless you tell me who they are, I don’t care that you’re mad at them. I’m sick of sitting in front of my computer, scrolling through your history, and racking my brain to figure out who the heck you are angry with. Why do I care? I don’t know. Maybe because every freaking time I log into Facebook I’m reminded that though we are “friends” I have no clue what is going on with your life. So why are we friends again?

3. I don’t need to keep tabs on your relationship status. I mean I do, but I don’t want it to be through Facebook.
I’d rather experience that awkward “ahhh” when I see you next time. Frankly, it makes for better conversation than, “Did you see that so-and-so changed their status from ‘in a relationship’ to ‘it’s complicated? I’ve been looking through their pictures and I can’t figure it out. What do you think?”

4. I’m sick of you “liking” my stuff. What happened to all the fun comments you used to leave?
If we’re such great friends, I would hope, at the very least, that you’d “like” the adorable picture of my son climbing a rope wall. He’s 21 months. And climbing a rope wall. Heck yah, you better like it. What I want to hear is, “You’re child is so advanced!” or “He looks just like you!” or  “Never seen a cuter kid.” Could you just take the time to write those five words? I counted. Each of those sentences took five words. Easy peasy
5. I would like you to stop posting pictures of memes you found on Pinterest to express your general feeling for the moment. I assume it’s for the moment, because you post a zillion per day. This goes back to the whole mystery shrouding that person that’s pissing you off. The memes or for them, right? Cause they’re certainly not for me. I just don’t get them. I almost feel like they’re directed at me….are they? I’m getting a complex.

5 Reasons I'm Sick Of Facebook
WHO is this for???
What about you? Are you sick of Facebook? Have you left or plan to leave?

Lot’s of what you wrote here is true. I so want to deactivate my account but sadly it’s the only way some of my family stay connected. Sad really, because some of my family is the reason I want to get rid the the account. They post inspirational quotes but when I talk to them on the actual phone, they”re F**k this and that and actually sounding miserable! I wish I had the courage to denounce some of these Facebook users who post ”I’m so happy and blissful”” when I know they are not. My husband calls it “Two Facebook””. I get sometimes you might not want to post depressing messages all the time and bring people down but enough is enough sometimes! Anyway, thanks for letting me know I”m not the only one becoming annoyed with Facebook.

Hahaha! Yah, I hear ya. For as satirical as this is, the truth is there are people on there that I would really miss and probably not really be able to talk to without it. And I do like it for networking purposes and events. Plus, successful blogging does need social media and I have never been able to figure out Twitter. Someday I’ll just have a blog FB and be done with it. But for now it just makes for annoying (and sometimes amusing) material. I miss you though! I did like seeing your stuff on FB and knowing what was going on in your life. Since the phone calls are always so sporadic between us ???? Miss you!

Funny, I just typed, “I’m sick of Facebook” into Google, and the first thing I see is your blog.

I just get so tired of seeing all the same meme’s over and over. (Although Facebook did try to consolidate them) I get so tired of all the politics. It’s been said a hundred million times, lets move on. Either do something about the problem, or stop saying the same things over and over. The bad part, is there is nothing quite like Facebook. Ello is still in beta testing. Google + is not as streamlined. I guess I will still use Facebook, since I do get some “real” information occasionally.

I’m sick of seeing…those stupid things you keep posting in this blog!!! The “old-timey” pictures with dumb sayings on them!!! SERIOUSLY SICK of seeing them. Please stop.

Erica, the pictures she posted were meant to be ironic because everyone posts those on Facebook and it starts to get annoying. The blogger was just making a point and you should get a life.

I definitely understand your complaints, but I personally love facebook. The only people I keep on my newsfeed are people whose statuses I enjoy or like to keep up with, so I look forward to reading status updates and seeing new posts. I think it can be overwhelming for people who become too invested in other peoples’ lives– but if you just take it at face value, it’s so interesting and entertaining! And it really does go a long way to help me keep up with friends and family all over the country. Plus, it’s such an easy way to keep up on current events, trending videos, interesting articles, etc. Look at it more as a sociology observation than deep conversations and it becomes thoroughly enjoyable ????

Yes, this post was definitely written a little tongue-in-cheek, because as much as I complain I still love some things about it. Maybe I should write a post on the positive things about Facebook. And you’re right, it is a nice way to stay current on whats going on in the larger scheme of things. Thank you for pointing that out ???? There are people I would desperately miss if I didn’t have it. So I stay on ????

GIVE IT UP!! Seriously, getting rid of my fb account was one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. I got so sick of the massive amounts of judgement and self-righteousness I’d vomit onto my computer screen every time I’d read a stupid post or see an unbelievable photo someone foolishly (and, remarkably, quite proudly) posted. See, there’s that judgement again. For me it was the whole, “if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off” thing. Rather than cut off my hand I figured I’d just delete my fb account and let God work on my heart and cut off the gross self-righteousness junk. I can’t believe how He has re-shaped my thinking since saying adios to facebook. And BONUS I spend alot less time on the computer. And double bonus, there are no more awkward conversations that start with me giving someone an update and them saying, “oh I know. I saw it on facebook.”

I’m glad you have Instagram and that you are such a faithful follower of my blog ???? Love you!

I started one but I thought it felt redundant. There weren’t that many people on it when I joined so I wasn’t really enthused by it. Do you have it?

I left FB and you didn’t even notice. I definitely didn’t leave it because I am cooler than you. I was actually one of those friends who make you feel old. I think all I miss is having easy access to your blog – now, instead, I waste my time trying to hunt it down.

Ok, Instagram is making me sad these days! Everyone has it and everyone just “likes” pictures. Grr. I didn’t mind it when I only had like 20 followers and we liked each other’s stuff, but now it’s ridiculous. I’m not sure I want to have 100 followers on Instagram. Oh well. Social media is this way–it just keeps growing until it pops and then something new comes along to steal the show.

I left it because of some Facebook friends and family members I had became Facebook friends with known criminals!!!!!! I don’t want any part of it. If I try to get a job, that’s the first place they look now!!!!!!!

Yah, we have to keep it for those long distance relationships. I do like keeping up with people that way and it’s nice that I’ve stayed friends with so many. But there are many downsides to FB and lately it’s getting more and more ridiculous. I spend a lot more time on Pinterest and reading blogs ???? Which by the way, whenever your Etsy shop is up and running if you’d like to do a giveaway over here I’d be happy to drive some traffic to your store ???? Just let me know!

Aww, Suzy. Thank you for saying that. You are one of those sweet moms I babysat for ???? I just feel like so many people HAVE left it, ya know? But I’m staying on. I’ll make fun of it, but I’ll keep my account. Because there are maybe two handfuls of awesome people that keep me there and I don’t want to miss out on their lives. Please understand this was written kind of tongue-in-cheek. Love you guys!

Since I moved from all that I know, I am so glad to have the connections. However, I do agree that some people are just so silly with some of the stuff they post on there. I must say Hillary, If you left I personally would be so sad. You are for sure one of the ones that I look forward to seeing and keeping in touch with. I love seeing you and your family pictures and your updates. I just thought I would encourage you. Hope I did ????

HAHAHA I love reading your thoughts. You’re the best and I’m so glad you keep writing. I left months ago and once I got past the withdrawals ???? I haven’t regretted it. I kept it at first for long distance relationships, but most of those people know i have a blog and know my email. it’s actually made me call people more and email more. I have to be more intentional about relationships and I like that. Plus, Instagram is kind of taking over as fb now. We’ll see how long that stays cool ????

I second all of these.. And those that constantly litter my news feed with such things, I’m almost in the habit of deleting. But as far as leaving facebook, I’d stick with it just because of some of the long distance relationships I have. John’s parents are missionaries in the Ukraine, so we can’t even talk over the phone all that often, and them seeing pictures I post every day helps them feel connected. So alas, I stick with it, and just check my news feed with eyes all squinty-like.
